Palm Coast, Florida — American Radionic, Co., Inc. (AmRad Engineering Division), announces that it has obtained a favorable settlement in the lawsuit it had filed against Direct Brand USA Limited and Direct Brand Limited (Direct Brand). American Radionic had brought suit in Federal District Court (Boston, Massachusetts) alleging that Direct Brand had made false representations about its motorrun capacitors and committed unfair competition. Under the terms of the settlement, Direct Brand has represented that it has stopped selling motor-run capacitors, including its Motor-Mate products, with the marking “Protected 10,000 AFC” (available fault current). Direct Brand has also agreed that it will not sell motor run capacitors with such a marking, or claim such protection, unless and until it obtains appropriate certification from Underwriter Laboratories, Inc. (UL) to do so. The settlement reinforces the strong action taken by UL. UL informed American Radionic that it requested Direct Brand to stop selling Motor-Mate products marked “Protected 10,000 AFC,” and Direct Brand agreed to stop selling these parts and to return parts to the manufacturer in China. American Radionic is pleased that UL took this action to protect the public from such uncertified products.
